WalkinsSaw~ CLASS 8T~ND]%RD Correctional services Cannery - Supply Officer CANNERY - SUPPLY OFFICER/GROUP LEADER This class covers positions of-employees performing igroup leader functions who oversee and'operate two centralized stockrooms associated with a cannery operation in a correctional institution.. They have~overaI1 responsibility. for the stockroom consisting of Institutional and industrial stores, ensuring adequate coverage in both areas. They also instruct and oversee inmates in some-duties relating to the cannery operation, assigning, reviewing and checking work, demonstrating methods, ensuring the observance of safety precautions and proper use of equipment and preparing behaviour and other related reports as .required for parole board, incentive allowance, temporary absences and remission purposes. Typical duties, include: reviewing work of subordinates, ensuring proper quality control checks and stock turnover and maintaining employee and section records. Purchasing duties may include interviewing sales personnel.; evaluating prices submitted by tender; .consulting with Industries Manager and Laundry Manager on items to be purchased, and initiating the purchase orders. They also prepare shipping schedules and bills of lading for shipment of goods outside the institution and arrange for dispatch of goods with transport companies. They..check incoming goods for shortage, damage., spoilage, quantity and quality and clarify discrepancies with suppliers. Also, they may operate a battery powered fork-lift~ or cannery equipment, making minor repairs where necessary. Skills and Knowledge Good knowledge of stockroom 'operations' and cannery procedures, Ministry policy, standing orders and directives. Ability to initiate and maintain manual and computerized inventory control and all needed stockroom ~ecords; ability to operate a variety of stockroom and cannery equipment. Group leadership ability. Familiarity with Ministry purchasing procedures. Good communication skills to liaise with department heads, suppliers, and transport dispatchers and to instruct and deal effectively with inmates. " CLASS STANDARD Correctional Services Cannery - Supply Officer cANNERY - SUPPLY OFFICER This class covers the position of employees who are .second in charge of two centralized stockrooms associated with a cannery operation in a correctional facility, with continuous responsibility for the efficiency of the operations, work assignments and solution of day to day problems and would'assume charge of the stockrooms during the group leader's absence. They also instruct and oversee inmates in some duties relating to the cannery operation, assigning, reviewing and checking .work; demonstrating methods; ensuring the observance of safety precautions and proper Use of equipment and preparing behaviour and other related reports as required for parol9 board, incentive .allowance, temporary absences and remission purposes. Typical stockkeeping duties include receiving and checking. incoming goods; maintaining appropriate records; issuing goods to various areas; verifying quantity/quality of items; placing stock in proper warehouse locations; addressing supplies and canned goods and determining mode of delivery; maintaining and issuing cleaning supplies; assisting with inventory counts; submitting reports on irregularities and making.recommendations for change. Duties. also relating to the cannery may .include: feeding materials e.g. tins, cartons, some ingredients etc~ into the 'cannery operation; labelling, and packaging canned goods for shipment. The may assist in maintaining quality control by · inspecting cans coming from the cannery. They.may operate. a battery powered fork-lift and may make minor repairs .to cannery .and tow-mot6r equipment. Skills and Knowledge .. Work requires a knowledge of stockkeeping operations and cannery procedures, ministry policy, standing orders and directives; perpetual inventory control and record keeping. Good communication skills to instruct'and deal.effectively with inmates; ability to operate and'make minor repairs to a variety of equipment including labelling machine and fork- lift; ability to exercise physical effort in performance of various duties.
