Order
This case concerning, among other things, the closure of the Pnnce Edward
Heights Facility, first proceeded to a hearing on April 1 , 1997 at which
time certain preliminary issues were addressed as set out in a
subsequently issued award As part of that award certain gnevances
relating to the employer's failure to grant leaves of absence to employees
who had found alternative employment were consolidated with the closure
case
The matter continued on April 29, 1997, at which time the employer
conceded that leaves of absence were being denIed contrary to the
authorities which require the exercise of genuine discretion in the
consideration of individual applications Accordingly, I directed the
employer to reconsider each leave application in accordance with the
established authorities.
