Briggs FOR THE UNION Scott Andrews Grievance Officers Ontario Public Service Employees Union FOR THE EMPLOYER Brian Scott Employee Relations Advisor Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services HEARINGJanuary 29, 2009. 2 Decision 1.The Employer and the Union at the Ontario Correctional Institute agreed to participate in the Expedited Mediation-Arbitration process in accordance with the negotiated Protocol. Many grievances were settled through that process. However, a few remained unresolved and therefore require a decision from this Board. The Protocol provides that decisions will be issued within a relatively short period of time after the actual mediation sessions and will be without reasons. Further, the decision is to be without prejudice and precedent. 2.Jim Mills is a Correctional Officer who filed two grievances alleging various breaches of the Collective Agreement regarding the payment of sick leave. 3.After hearing the facts and considering the submissions made by the parties I order the Employer to pay the grievor eight hours of pay at straight time. th Dated at Toronto this 18 day of February 2009.
