INTERIM DECISION
In a telephone conference call between counsel for the
union and the employer and me on July 31, 1997, counsel for
the employer requested that the initial hearing date of
August 8, 1997 be adjourned. The union opposed the request.
Having heard the representations of counsel for the
parties, I directed that the hearing be adjourned to
September 19, and October 8, 9, 29 and 30, 1997. Counsel for
the parties indicated their intention to use September 19,
1997 for pre-hearing discussions and/or mediation, if either
of those approaches appear appropriate at that time, and to
use the remaining dates for an arbitration hearing, if the
matter is not resolved.
