Benedict Manager, Staff Relations Personnel Branch Ministry of Correctional Services The grievor in this case states his complaint as follows (Exhibit 1): Students are given authority to handle the keys, which creates a major breach of security; yet we the correctional officers are forced to assume responsibility for the keys by signing them out. And he requests the following settlement: Students are not qualified correctional officers and therefore must not be permitted to use the keys. We met on December 8, 1982 to hear this matter. The grievor was not present and the Union representative informed the Board that the grievor had been notified of the hearing by registered mail, and had acknowledged receipt of the letter (Exhibit 2). The grievor did not contact his represent- ative as he was requested to do, nor was Mr. Pratt able to contact the griever. In these circumstances, we have no alternative but to dismiss the grievance.
